Cách hỏi và nói về MỤC ĐÍCH - PURPOSE trong tiếng Anh
Cách hỏi và trả lời mục đích của hành động hay đồ vật nào đó trong tiếng Anh!!
Khi hỏi về mục đích của một hành động/sự vật ta dùng: Why, What... for?, What is the purpose of...? Khi trả lời ta dùng các cấu trúc: For + Noun; To do...; In order to do = so as not to to... (...)
1. Hỏi về mục đích
- Why.....? (Tại sao.........?)
Ví dụ:
Why do you want to learn English?
Sao anh lại muốn học tiếng Anh?
- What ......for? (Để làm gì..........?)
Ví dụ:
What did you buy it for?
Anh mua nó để làm gì?
- What is the purpose of......? (Mục đích của.......là gì?)
Ví dụ:
What is the purpose of her visit?
Mục đích chuyến viếng thăm của bà ấy là gì?
2. Diễn tả mục đích
a. For + Noun (phrase): để
Ví dụ:
He has gone out for dinner.
Anh ấy ra ngoài ăn tối rồi.
I went to the supermarket for some foods
Tôi đi siêu thị để mua ít đồ ăn.
b. To do.....: để
Ví dụ:
He has gone out to eat dinner
Anh ấy ra ngoài ăn tối.
Lưu ý : She has been to the post office for buying stamp à sai
She has been to the post office to buy stamp à đúng
- Tuy nhiên có trường hợp ngoại lệ: To be used for doing = To be used to do
Ví dụ:
A knife is used for cutting. = A knife is used to cut. (Một con dao được dùng để cắt gọt.)
c. In order to do = so as to do
Ví dụ:
He finished work early .He wanted to see the football match.
à He finished work early in order to see the football match.
Anh ấy làm xong việc sớm để kịp xem trận bóng đá.
+ In order not to do = so as not to do
Ví dụ:
We whisper .We didn't want to disturb him.
à So as not to disturb him, we whisper.
Để không làm phiền ông ấy nên chúng tôi đã nói chuyện thì thầm.
+ In order for sb / sth to do: Để cho ai / cái gì làm gì
Ví dụ:
In order for the lift to work you must press this button.
Để thang máy hoạt động anh phải nhấn nút này.
d. with a view to + V_ing: để làm gì , với ý định làm gì
Ví dụ:
With a view to preparing this report, I will visit a number of venues and attended quite a lot of games.
Để viết bài báo cáo này tôi đã đến thăm quan một số địa điểm và tham gia vào khá là nhiều trò chơi.
e. So that / In order that + S - V ( can , could , may , might , will, would)
Ví dụ:
I left the letter on the table . I wanted him to see it when he came in.
à I left the letter on the table so that he could see it when he came in.
Tôi để lại lá thư trên bàn nên anh ấy có thể thấy nó khi anh ấy bước vào.
We were speaking quietly .We didn't want anyone to hear us.
à We were speaking quietly in order that no one could hear it.
Chúng tôi nói rất khẽ để không ai có thể nghe được.
f. For fear that S_V ( should): vì sợ rằng
Ví dụ:
I am telling you this for fear that you should make a mistake.
Tôi nói với anh điều này vì sợ rằng anh sẽ phạm sai lầm.
