CONSIST, COMPRISE, COMPOSE or INCLUDE?
CONSIST, COMPRISE and COMPOSE are all verbs used to describe what something is 'made of'. We don't use them in continuous forms.

Luôn được dùng ở thể chủ động (active voice)
Their diet only consisted of fruit and seeds.
The whole group consists of students.
Their flat consists of two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.
Not: Their flat is consisted of two bedrooms...
2. COMPRISE (trang trọng hơn "CONSIST"): to have as parts or members, or to be those parts or members: có hoặcbao gồm (những thành phần chủ yếu).
Được dùng ở thể chủ động (Active Voice) và bị động (Passive Voice).
a. "comprise" (Chủ động => không có "of")
The USA comprises 50 states. (Active)
The collection comprises 327 paintings.
b. "be comprised of" (Bị động => có "of")
The class is comprised mainly of Italian and French students.
Lớp học chủ yếu gồm sinh viên Pháp và Ý.
The course is comprised of ten core modules.
Khóa học gồm 10 học phần chính.
c. "comprise... of", không phải "compose", có thể được dùng với những thành phần chủ yếu tạo nên cái gì đó làm chủ thể (chủ động - Active voice)
Oil and coal comprise 70% of the nation's exports.
People aged 65 and over now comprise nearly 20% of the population.
Older people comprise a large proportion of those living in poverty.
Italian students comprise 60 percent of the class.
3. COMPOSE OF: to be formed from various things: được hình thành/tạo thành do hoặc từ những thứ khác nhau = bao gồm, gồm có...
Luôn được dùng ở thể bị động (passive voice)
"Compose of" trang trọng hơn "consist of" và "comprise".
Air is composed mainly of nitrogen and oxygen.
Không khí chủ yếu là do nitrogen và oxyen hợp thành.
Muscle is composed of different types of protein.
Not: Muscle composes of different types of protein.
Chú ý: Không dùng cả ba động từ này ở dạng tiếp diễn:
The whole group consists of students.
Not: The whole group is consisting of students.
4. INCLUDE (Transivetive Verb): to contain something as a part of something else, or to make something part of something else: chứa cái gì là một bộ phận/thành phần của cái gì; tạo thành bộ phận/thành phần của cái gì = trong đó có/gồm, kể cả...
Được dùng ở thể chủ động (Active Voice) và bị động (Passive Voice).
a. "include" (Active Voice):
The bill includes tax and service.
The price includes dinner, bed, and breakfast.
* include + V-ing:
Your responsibilities will include making appointments on my behalf.
The proposals include increasing the tax on petrol.
b. "be included in/from/on/as... sth" (Passive Voice):
Tax and service are included in the bill.
Women are still excluded from the club.
His work was recently included in an exhibition of young painters.
British wine is included on the wine lists of some Bristish restaurants.
Representatives from the country were included as observers at the conference.
c. "including" (preposition): used for saying that someone or something is part of a particular group or amount: được dùng để đề cập đến một (hai, hoặc nhiều hơn) người hay một vật gì cũng thuộc về một nhóm hay một số lượng người/vật gì: trong đó có/gồm, kể cả...
Eight people, including two children, were injured in the explosion.
Including Christmas Day and Boxing Day, I've got a week off work.
He has admitted committing several crimes, including two murders.
The house price, including fixtures and fittings, is £200 000.
Four more countries applied to join the EU, including Sweden and Austria.
The good news delighted everyone, including me.
Their new house has four storeys including the attic.
not including (không bao gồm): The price is £13,650, not including tax.
Lưu ý: "Include" hay "including" chỉ đề cập đến một hoặc hai (hay nhiều hơn) người/vật... cũng thuộc về một nhóm người/vật ... nào đó => không cần đầy đủ các thành phần tạo nên một nhóm người/vật ... đó.
