CONVERSATION - CHAT - TALK
1. CONVERSATION => a private and informal talk between two or more people in which thoughts, feelings, and ideas are expressed, questions are asked and answered, or news and information is exchanged.
= cuộc nói chuyện riêng tư, không trang trọng -> trao đổi (không thảo luận) thông tin, quan điểm, ý kiến, cảm nghĩ, cảm xúc, hỏi và trả lời...
have a conversation (with sb): She had a long telephone conversation with her mother.
make conversation: to talk to someone that you do not know well, in order to be polite, not because you really want to talk to them. This type of conversation is also called small talk.
= nói chuyện với ai đó chưa hoặc không biết rõ để giữ phép lịch sự, không phải do bạn muốn nói chuyện với họ. Cuộc nói chuyện kiểu này được gọi là "small talk".
'Nice party, isn't it?' I said, trying to make conversation.
2. CHAT => a friendly/easy/familiar/casual conversation; idle small talk = cuộc nói chuyện thân mật/thoải mái/tự nhiên...
have a chat (with someone): I had an interesting chat with his sister.
chat about: I hear you two have been having a cosy little chat about me!
3. TALK => talk about sth seriously (business, politics, etc) or about a particular subject, express thoughts, discuss sth with sb often try to find a solution to a disagreement, give a lecture on a subject.
= nói về vấn đề/chuyện gì đó một cách nghiêm chỉnh (làm ăn, chính trị...) hoặc về một chủ đề riêng biệt, bày tỏ những cảm nghỉ, thảo luận vấn đề gì với ai thường là để tìm ra giải pháp cho sự bất đồng, thuyết trình về một chủ đề.
have a talk (with someone): We had a nice talk yesterday.
I asked him to have a talk with his mother about his plan.
give/deliver a talk (about/on something): Williams gave a talk on his travels in Nepal.
He gave a talk about/on his visit to Malaysia.
