LEFT với nghĩa "not used up" (không dùng hết, dư, thừa, còn lại)

Ngoài nghĩa "trái, bên trái, phía bên trái..." ra, "left" còn có nghĩa là "dư, còn lại".

Chúng ta có các tính từ mang nghĩa là "not used up = không dùng hết, thừa, dư thừa, còn lại" như:

left (đứng sau danh từ/đại từ)              

     "Are there any apples?" "I have one left."

     She had a little money left.

     There are some students left.

     There are no students left.

     There are no apples left.

     There is no money left.

 

lefter over (đứng sau danh từ/đại từ)  

       She had a little money left over so she went to amovie.

       There was lots of food/it left over.

 

leftover (đứng trước danh từ)               

       Use any leftover meat to make a curry.

       Today we use some leftover ​chicken from last night's ​meal.

 

remaining (đứng trước danh từ)          

   We saved the remaining sandwiches for supper.

  The ​latest ​violence has ​smothered any remaining ​hopes for an early ​peace ​agreement.

   I ​finally ​surrendered to ​temptation, and ​ate the last remaining ​chocolate.

   The remaining ​inhabitants of this once-prosperous ​market ​town have got used to a ​twilight ​existence.

    The ​prize ​money will be ​shared between the remaining ​contestants.

    The remaining ​money will be ​donated to ​charity.

 

unexpended (đứng trước danh từ)       

     We have unexpended provisions to last us two weeks.
