MAKE & GIVE
I. MAKE:
1. make sb sth: to create or produce something by working = tạo ra hay làm ra cái gì cho ai
Joan made me a beautiful dress for my wedding.
Joan đã may cho tôi một áo đầm đẹp cho đám cưới của tôi.
He made us some coffee.
Anh ấy đã pha cà phê cho chúng tôi.
2. to cause someone to be in a particular state:
a. make sb (+ feel) + adjective
* These stories have made people (feel) pleased and satisfied over the years.
** The fresh air made us (feel) hungry.
b. make sb/sth + do:
*** The noice makes my head ache/hurt/spin.
This hotel actually made me have a nightmare!
The wind is making my eyes water.
3. make sb + noun: to elect or choose sb as sth: bầu hay chọn ai làm gì hoặc vào chức gì...
She made him her assistant.
They made him head teacher after Joanne left.
II. GIVE:
give sb sth: to make someone feel or experience something => tương tự MAKE - mục 2.
*These stories have given people enormous pleasure over the years.
** The fresh air gave us an appetite (= made us hungry).
*** The noise gives me a headache (= makes my head ache/hurt/spin)
Lưu ý: Nghĩa của "give sb sth" giống với nghĩa của MAKE ở mục 2, nhưng cấu trúc thì khác nhau.
