THEREFORE
A. Dùng "therefore" như một liên từ nhằm giới thiệu một mệnh đề độc lập.
Có 3 hình thức để nối các câu riêng biệt bằng "therefore".
1. Bắt đầu một câu riêng biệt bằng "therefore", theo sau là dấu phẩy:
The players were my heroes. Therefore, my dad was my hero because he was the coach.
This is a binding contract. Therefore, we recommend that you review it with a lawyer.
2. Dùng một dấu chấm phẩy trước "therefore" và theo sau là dấu phẩy:
The players were my heroes; therefore, my dad was my hero because he was the coach.
This is a binding contract; therefore, we recommend that you review it with a lawyer.
3. Thêm một liên từ trước "therefore" để nối hai mệnh đề độc lập (trước cụm từ này có dấu phẩy):
The players were my heroes, and therefore my dad was my hero because he was the coach.
This is a binding contract, and therefore we recommend that you review it with a lawyer.
B. Nhưng khi "therefore" mang chức năng của một trạng từ, thì "therefore" hoặc "and therefore" hoàn toàn đứng giữa câu:
The new boots are lighter and softer, and therefore more comfortable to wear.
I no longer have the support of the committee. I have therefore decided to resign.
He's only 17 and therefore not eligible to vote.
